Stop Being “Frozen” in the Past…Let It Go

I think I’ve watched the movie Frozen as least three times. Like with most Disney animation movies, they don’t just appeal to kids. The movies offer powerful, life lessons and take-a-ways for adults.

The movie Frozen is known for the iconic song, Let It Go. As I listened to the song, I really thought about some of the lyrics. For example, …

Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

Elsa sings what many of us feel. We feel we have to hide and conceal who we are. We believe we have to live up to other people’s standards. We continue to struggle with unrealistic limitations we and other have placed on us. We believe we have to hide our imperfections and shortcomings. We continue to believe that somehow perfection is attainable. But in order to own your amazing and be seen and heard for your brilliance, you must do what the song says…Let It Go!

You have to let go of limiting beliefs. You have to let go of your past mistakes. You have to let go of people who longer support the vision you have for your life. You have to let of old ideas of what is possible for your life.

Here all my favorite lines in the song…

It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me,
I'm free!

OYA CHALLENGE
I challenge you to identify one thing you will let go of that you know is holding you back from owning your amazing.

As the song says…it’s time to see what you can do, to test your limits, and get your break through. Let It Go…be free.

 Until next time…

This is Major

Yes, that's me (and my sister) riding  on a camel in the desert. His name is Major. Not only was it major, or a big deal, for me to climb on a camel and ride it in the Mexican desert, but it was major that I didn't allow my fears to stop me from taking this awesome ride.

When I saw the flyer about hiking in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico desert and riding on a camel, I knew I had to do it. But right before it was time to go for the hike and meet the camels, I became afraid. I wanted to say, "never mind, I don't have to do it."

Often times, we allow fear to stop us from trying new things, meeting new people, and going after our dreams. One of the main messages from Owning Your Amazing Now is about inspiring people to do push past their fears. I realize that I could have come up with excuse after excuse as to why I didn't want to ride the camel. But I didn't want to have another time in my life where I let fear win.

After the ride, I climbed off Major, patted his back, and  thanked him for letting me ride on him. I also told myself that I was proud of myself for not letting fear get the best of me. Facing our fears, whether big or small, is a big deal.

OYA CHALLENGE:

So, I challenge you to do something that you are afraid of.

Whether it's riding on a camel, starting a business, or even going after a new position. We are meant to live bigger lives than we are currently living. But we can only do that when we push past our fears. So go for it... you may will end up enjoying the ride like I did with Major!

Until next time...

I Am Aware that I Am Rare

The dictionary defines rare as:

  1.  an event, situation, or condition not occurring very often;

  2.  a thing not found in large numbers and consequently of interest or value;

  3. unusually good or remarkable.

Synonyms or words that mean the same as rare include:  exceptional, outstanding, unparalleled, matchless, unique, unrivaled, inimitable, beyond compare, without equal, second to none, unsurpassed.

Are you aware that you are truly rare?

I love flowers, especially red roses and sunflowers. A few months ago, someone gave me a dozen red roses. I quickly put them on my dining room table. I looked at those flowers and admired their beauty for days. But as time went on, the flowers began to wither and eventually they died. Sure, I will get more red roses, but none will be exactly like the ones I had. No two flowers are same and neither are humans beings.

There will never be anyone exactly like you and I ever again. So if we don't allow ourselves to shine NOW, then there will be no other time in history for it to happen. Sure there will be others coming after us, but there will never be another you or me. We are truly once in a lifetime creations!

OYA CHALLENGE

My challenge to you is to fully embrace that you are rare, beyond compare, unique--not occurring again. Create a new affirmation that confirms that you are rare!

Start really understanding what it means to be special, a real masterpiece, and yes...amazing. Start being aware that your talents and abilities are unique and special. So own it now, so others can benefit from this rare phenomenal called YOU!

Until Next Time...

Built Like an ATV

A few years ago, I drove an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) while in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. It was my first time driving an ATV!  ATV's are designed to be able to handle any kind of terrain or road conditions. I have to admit it, the terrain was a little challenging at times and it made me think twice about why I decided to take on this adventure. But as you can see from the picture, I'm smiling and having a good time.

Life is full of ups and downs, ins and outs, and wins and losses. But at times we forget that we are stronger, smarter, more talented, and resourceful than we give ourselves credit for. As you look at your life, you will see that you were able to handle so tough situations. You made it over the rough spots. You have some major wins under your belt.

So, how did you make it through some of life's most difficult challenges?

I believe that just like an ATV, you were built to handle the difficult terrains. I believe you were created to do defy the impossible and to overcome the unimaginable. As you continue to confirm that you are amazing, you will continue to defy the odds, overcome challenges, and shine brighter than before.

OYA CHALLENGE

I challenge you to approach life's challenges being certain that you can handle them. Write down your 3 best tips for getting over rough challenges in life.

Remember, there's nothing that you can't handle or overcome.

Until next time...

Missing Piece

I work with young children and I  use a variety of toys like, Logos, board games, and especially puzzles. When the children and I finish playing the games or puzzles, I try to be mindful about putting all the pieces back in the box. But somehow some of the pieces don't make it back in the proper boxes. To say I get highly annoyed when I go to play a game or do a puzzle and pieces are missing would be an understatement.

I have some really cool puzzles that my young clients love. There are a few puzzles that have one or two pieces missing. Of course I can never remember which puzzles have the missing pieces. It's not until the child and I get to the end of the puzzle do I realize that a piece is missing! I know what you're thinking...just get rid of the puzzles with the missing pieces!

You are the missing piece for a lot of people. There are people who need you to come out of the shadows and starting shining. You are the missing piece that will help others to live their lives more fully. There are literally thousands of people who are waiting for you to offer your talents and brilliance. But when you don't step up and step out and share your gifts, others miss out. Remember that you are needed. There are those who want what you have to offer.

OYA CHALLENGE

My challenge to you is to start offering your gifts and talents to help others. It can be something big or small. I know it will make a difference in someone's life. Let me know what you decide to do!

Until next time...

P.S. Doing a puzzle is fun. What's even better is when all the puzzle pieces are there and you can see the whole picture...like on the box. I have another challenge...go do a puzzle! Take a picture of it, so I can see if any pieces are missing!
